For many, Tricia Gosingtian is no stranger to the local art scene.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock with no internet access, then you couldn’t have witnessed how she single-handedly made herself viral through her various online accounts—with all its content screaming less is more. From her simple, nonchalant, kawaii style that has sent her to the supreme ranks of Lookbook and Chictopia; to her penchant for natural light in photography—her trademark aesthetic that has put this 20 year old IV BFA Information Design in Preview magazine’s Top 24 Most Creative Pinoys of 2008, and Philippine Star’s annual feature do 22 achievers under 22, to name a few. Model, stylist, hairstylist, and photographer—this media triple threat stops at nothing, as she juggles her thesis with all the extra curricular work under her belt. And though she cites photography as her first love, her pursuit for this craft has lead her into diverse opportunities, which she welcomes with perpetual zeal.Proving that talent and passion can successfully overcome and continuously challenge the boundaries of age, Tricia has definitely got it made.

Looks like Jan Parma’s on a roll, pun intended.A senior AB Communication major taking up Production track, this 21 year-old has snagged one of the most coveted jobs of every aspiring Atenean filmmaker: director of the Orsem film. But make no mistake, he’s no one hit wonder. His cinematic prowess persists as his short film, MIS-EN-SCENE, made its debut in the 2009 Cinemalaya.Broadening his behind-the-camera endeavors, he also produces various professional music video shoots outside Ateneo, and is currently a cinematographer for Spinmagic Productions.Recently, he lent his talent on a short film to advocate empowerment and the significance of registering to vote, entitled “Ateneans voting in 2010”.Watch out, it’s only a matter of time until he comes to a theater near you.

Funny how the band never knew they named themselves after some kind of meat.
Wagyu is composed of Robin Nievera (yes, he’s the son of local music royalties Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez!) on guitars and vocals, Frame Ong on bass and vocals and Pat Sarabia on drums. Their style, Pat says (with much confusion) is a mix of alternative and rock plus jam, Their influences range extensively from The Dave Matthews Band to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Jojo Mayer to the Fall of Troy.
If you want to check them out, these kids are always rocking up Al’s Bar in Paranaque, Mag.net in Bonifacio Highstreet and Checkpoint.
Support beef, Eat meat. Listen to Wagyu. Now, that’s hardcore carnivore for you.

Conviction and passion are true marks of a Filipino, and Angelo is powerfully well-versed in both.
With a Palanca award and three published books under his belt, Angelo Suarez is the epitome of an achiever. Most famous for his liberated literary work “The Nymph of MTV”, he has impressed readers with his clever mix of the erotic, the patriotic and the ethereal. Possessing the incredible ability to write with his heart, his words are almost tangible to poets and non-poets alike.
Angelo is intellectual discourse at its finest, definitely one of the best things the third-world can offer.

Although Angelica Lim or “Aika”, a second year AB Communications student from the Ateneo De Manila University is known primarily by her friends as an athlete, she has always been an artist at heart. She likes art because it is a “way of expressing yourself and your views. People don’t have to agree with the issues you portray in your artwork but at least it provokes thought.”
She took the higher level International Baccalaureate course in art for 2 years in her high school Jakarta International School and has received the Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asian Schools Best Artist Award. Her artistic expression has no preference but she mostly does acrylic on canvas, digital art and mixed mediums. The dynamic sources of her inspiration manifests in each of her works, thus creating a truly unique and surreal experience for both art enthusiasts and casual lookers alike.
And hopefully soon enough, we’ll be seeing her headlining an art exhibit, giving her pieces their much-awaited break.

Nothing is ever black and white in Regine David’s world.
Her love for photography sprung at the age of 15, with a simple point and shoot camera and a trip to the beach. Blessed with an innate eye for capturing beauty, this sophomore Information Design student has received countless awards and features for her craft since then—with the likes of Unilever and the Philippine Daily Inquirer under her belt. Photojournalism, as she would describe it is “intense, experimental, and beautiful”, and very much like her style.
There is no doubt that life for Regine screams out in technicolor, while her art disturbs us into living.

UNPLUGGED: Concept

The umbrella theme we would like to use for our end of the year group project is ART.

Art is just one of the many forms of self expression, but just like the field of communications, the creation of an art piece requires the combination of various fundamentals particularly creativity and rationale. Art is like its own medium—it encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music and literature; it is not limited to paintings or 2 dimensional pieces.

After learning about the different mediums of communications, we believe that showcasing art is the perfect way to tie everything together. Due to the wide scope of art we often fail to realize that without art, the media would be rather blunt and uninteresting. There is an art in doing everything that is broadcasted on the media; from telling the news to television shows. And it is this creative nature that fascinates and entertains us. This is the reason we watch television, the reason we watch summer block buster movies, the reason we isolate ourselves from the world by listening to music, and it is also the reason we read books and magazines. Art stimulates an individual’s thoughts, emotions, beliefs, or ideas through the senses. It is an expression of an idea which comes in various forms to serve a variety of purposes (politically, spiritually, or philosophically motivated art) to create a sense of beauty in order to explore the nature of perception; for pleasure; or to generate strong emotions.

Unplugged (raw)

In order to unify everything, this event will be built around the concept of “unplugged”.

The term “unplugged” has become a term used for acoustic music, or music that is not electronically amplified. In fact, MTV developed a TV show called MTV Unplugged which showcased acoustic sessions of famous recording artists. The underlying concept behind the Unplugged is attributed to the popularity among musicians of a variety of informal musical performances on stage, film, television and record in earlier decades. The casual “in-the-round” sequence in Elvis Presley’s 1968 Comeback Special, and the Beatles informal studio jams documented in the 1970 film Let It Be were both precursors of the “Unplugged” concept.

In this event, we will take the concept of “unplugged” to a higher level. We will not only showcase music that is not electronically amplified, but we will also showcase other forms of entertainment without the use of an additional outlet. Basically, any form of self expression that is appropriate.

Thus, unplugged refers to literally unplugging ourselves from television, music, cell phone, the internet and instead be occupied with more authentic entertainment that though ‘disconnected’, will feed one’s artistic soul. This paradox shall awaken your senses.
